  • Details of the car(s)
  • Who can drive the car(s)

If any of these details have changed or are incorrect, it's important that you call LV= so they can correct them and send you an accurate renewal quote.

Lines open 24 hours. For Text Phone first dial 18001. Calls will be recorded.

What do I do if I have a car accident and how do I report it?

Firstly, the most important thing is to make sure you're safe. If nobody's been hurt, then stay calm and follow these steps:

  • If another person or vehicle was involved; exchange details including, names and addresses, phone numbers, registration numbers, makes and models.
  • If the other vehicle is a lorry, you should take a note of the number on the cab and the trailer insurers and policy numbers.
  • If the other vehicle is registered in a foreign country, make a note of what country it's from and the 'green card' number - this helps when the team needs to contact UK representatives.
  • Avoid discussing who was to blame, even if you think it's obvious.
  • It may also help a claim get sorted sooner if you have any photographs taken at the scene or can provide details of any CCTV cameras covering the area where it happened.
  • Jot down names and addresses of any witnesses and details of the police (if they attended).
  • Lastly, when you're home safely, give LV= a call on 0330 678 5550. You can ask someone else to report the claim but they'll need to talk to you about it afterwards. The Claims Team take all details during the initial phone call and there are no forms to complete.

Lines open 24 hours. For Text Phone first dial 18001. Calls will be recorded.

If I claim for windscreen damage, does it affect my NCD?

No, if you’ve switched your car insurance through Age Co, windscreen claims don't affect your no claim discount. This is part of all LV= policies.

For example, if you get a chip in your windscreen and it needs to be repaired or replaced, you'll have to pay an excess - but you won't lose any of your NCD. You can find your windscreen excess in your policy documents.

Am I covered if I put the wrong fuel in?

Yes, with LV= comprehensive car insurance you're covered for putting the wrong fuel in your vehicle. They will pay to drain and flush your fuel tank, as well as cover the damage to the car's engine*. You may have to pay an Accidental Damage excess – they will tell you how much that is when you phone to make a claim.

*If you accidentally use E10 rather than E5 there’s no need to drain the tank, just fill with E5 next time.

To make a claim for misfuelling, please call LV= on 0330 678 5550 – who will be happy to help.

Lines open 24 hours. For Text Phone first dial 18001. Calls will be recorded.

How do I find out how much my excess is?

You’ll find your excess amount in your policy documents, which you received when you purchased the policy or you can log in to your account to view and download your policy documents.

Am I covered to drive other cars?

If it shows cover for Driving Other Cars on your policy documents, you’ll have cover so you're legally allowed to drive someone else's privately owned car, even if you aren't named on their insurance. This type of cover is referred to as Third Party Only.

This means if you're involved in an accident that's your fault, the policy will cover any damage you may cause to a third party or their property, but won't cover the car you're driving at all. The owner won't be able to claim for the damage you caused to their car under their own policy either, as you're not named on their insurance.

Whether you’re covered or not, by law the owner still needs to make sure they’ve insured the car to avoid any issues with the police.

As the cover is minimal it's only meant to be used on rare occasions or in emergencies, if you'll be driving someone else’s car on a regular basis, you should get yourself added to their insurance.

Can I get a guaranteed hire car during repairs?

You can choose to add guaranteed hire car cover to your policy as an optional extra. This cover guarantees use of a hire car if your car is being repaired or if your vehicle has been stolen or written off.

Making changes to your policy
I've sold my car. How do I cancel my car insurance policy?

To cancel your car insurance policy, give LV= a call on 0330 678 5226.

Lines are open:

  • Monday to Friday: 8am to 8pm
  • Saturday: 9am - 5pm
  • Sunday and Bank Holidays: 9am - 5pm
